16 July 06 - Sunday... and waiting
You are here: Home > Sailing the boat to Denmark > Diary
This weekend has been a complete waste of time, looking at it from the project perspective.
We was told that there would be work on the ship for 1/2 day today... starting at 8:00, but that never materialized. The carpenters are however supposedly working at the workshop, getting the furniture ready, but its agrevating to have agreements which arent fullfilled.
I was waiting on the Dimitris from about 8:45 until 12:45 without anyone turning up. Søren kept me with company until around 10:30 where I send him of to do some touristing around. Its the captains job to wait, not the crews ;).
I called Panos, to hear what was happening. They may come to remove the big top window in the saloon, to be able to get the furniture in that way, as the normal entrance was too small. We were promised that the departure 21/22 July would not be jepardized. We hope that will be the case.
I just hate sitting around twidling thumbs on a weekend where there could have been done some work.
I was also told that the papers can be fetched from the sellers accountants office (the editor of the largest Greek newspaper, and a former famous (in Greece) war journalist) tomorrow Monday at 9:30. So that will be our primary objective for the morning.
We were told that the carpenters will start to install furnitures tomorrow too, so we look VERY much forward to that happening.
Originally all the floor boards in the saloon and master cabin should have been decorated with varnished wood. We may have to compromise on that due to the time factor. It will save us a couple of days (where the varnish is drying) not having the full floor done. We have though asked for the floor area around the kitchen and the port aft toilet area to be done, as these places could be considered 'wet' areas. The remaining floor will be covered with a new carpet (the old one was actually looking ok imo, but they have chosen to throw it out).
We havnt done much today, except for waiting on the ship for workers, stay on our hotel room, and finally taking a stroll to get some food.
The temperature around 9-11:00 was really pleasent. At noon the humidity rose along with the wind and temperature. It seems there is a pattern wind wise, which means that our original plan to leave in the morning is a good one, as later on the day, the wind speed takes on quite a bit with hard bursts.
No pictures today (we did take a few of us walking around our hotel, but they are probably not of much interest to the general public :)). Tomorrow I sincerely hope to have more to present.
