18 July 06 - Some progress in Athens
You are here: Home > Sailing the boat to Denmark > Diary
We have finally seen some progress in the work on Dimitris. The walls for the toilet room have now been fitted, the floor almost done (need a carpet though), the base for the washing machine has been made and Emeraldas table cut out.
The walls will now be removed again, and get color and 3 layers of varnish before being reinstalled. This will take some days, after which the floor in the bathroom can be fiberglassed.
In the meantime other remaining things will hopefully be done, like installing the main sail hoist and reeves lines and required new winch in the cockpit.
The temperature have dropped some today. It has been a more comfortable temperature and humidity than the previous days.
The highlight of today is that Oluf has arrived. Welcome to him. He is staying in the Dimitris with Soeren. Ive asked for the kitchen area to be cleaned up, as this will now be considered crew area and no longer work area. Thus now they have water, refrigerator, fridge, microwave and oven along with coffee and toast making capabilities available. The workers have been told to get the other cabin ready for use latest July 21.
Our sail plan has unfortunately been changed again.. this time we expect departure July 26. We arent very joyfull about all these changes to the plan, but we can only do so much to rush the work on the boat. We are however requiring from the workers that they spend time in the weekend too (contrary to the previous weekends which were - apart from the carpenters - wasted work wise).
Oluf has been taking a hike to Athens with Soeren. Oluf visited the Acropolis while Soeren wandered off to dont know where :)
Anyway... now its bedtime, and the story writing must end for today.
Here are some pictures of the day:
