20 July 06 - Urghh
You are here: Home > Sailing the boat to Denmark > Diary
Ive had my last 450g steak for a long time to come. It seems that my stomach wasnt up to all those proteins as I had a quite bad morning today. It started out at around 5:00 in the morning with waking up having a very strong headache and needing to throw up.. so off to the toilet in the hotel and bye bye nice beef.
This continued until around 11:30 when the physical things started to clear up a bit and the headache starting to lift slightly.
We were to go to Marathon today with Soeren, but that was obviously postponed. We will try to see if we get time to do the trip Friday or Saturday instead.
Anyway.. I cant spend all day in bed, so when I felt that I wasnt going to throw up any longer, I had a long nice shower (quite needed) and off we went to purchase 2 sets of elastic lifelines, 2 grown up life line harnesses and one children life line harness. In addition we went hunting for paperrolls for our ICS NavTex instrument which we finally found (havnt had time to see if they fit... but hope is high :)).
Finally we went out to find some place to get Dimitris crew T-Shirts made, and finally found a place in 'The Mall' which is a large shopping center (I would estimate it as 50% bigger than the shopping center Fields in Denmark). I also found a bargain (I surely hope ;)) in the form of a new laptop with reasonable specs, AMD Turion 64 processor, 512MB RAM, 80 GB harddrive, builtin Wifi, Double side DVD burner, multiple card reader and more for only Euro 400.
As I 'forgot' the DVD player at home (actually left it on purpose at home due to weight and space restrictions), I was planning to find a portable DVD player in Athens, but I also felt bad about spending some Euro 200 for one of those, knowing that I already have one in Denmark.
The laptop is a Fujitso Siemens with all the software and bits/parts, but it had been running as a demo, and had a cosmetic damage to a corner of its casing. This doesnt matter at all to me as its still 100% in technical order and will serve fine as a DVD player/burner/game machine for our trip home, thus freeing up our navigation and work PC from such matters.
In Denmark, the two grown up boys, Peter and Jesper is getting ready to enlist to the Danish Defence service in Vordingborg Aug. 1st. And for that reason, they should be busy sorting out what they need to bring etc. And also to figure out what they would like to keep from their old room in the house we have sold. But it seems that they are spending more time dreaming about a promise I gave them before we went to Athens... that I would give them my old Nissan 300zx sports car for free. They seemingly have got a request for a swap... 2 x BMW 320 one of them newly registered, for one Nissan 300zx... Well.. I gave them the go ahead... as its their choise what they want to do with the Nissan and it doesnt sound to stupid to get some other easier managed cars in return for it.
We werent in the boat today, but have heard that they have been working on the plumbing. The water taps now run nicely without the explosions from before (due to air in the freshwater system). They should also have cleaned out the other aft cabin today, as we are going to move out of our 4 star hotel and into the cramped living quarters of the Dimitris with all the work in progress.
Moving also means that we will loose our relatively stable internet connection. There is no wireless LAN connectivity in Dimitris, but we will investigate if there is close to some of the buildings near the marina, in which case we can go there to update the diary etc.
We are still looking for additional crew members, and have adverticed locally. There are a couple of potentials here, seemingly UK citizens, but we have also gotten some renewed interest from Denmark, which we are happy is happening. That means that our adventure is actually interest others, which is obviously exciting.
As we havnt really done anything remotely interesting today, and we havnt been in the boat, no pictures was taken... Im anyway sure that you will want to be spared for any pictures taken between 5:00 and 11:30 this morning.
