23 July 06 - Construction progress

Finally.... the carpenters came at approx. 14:00 and installed the newly varnished walls for the new toilet/shower room. The color is a quite close match to the existing color of the interiour woodwork, and the wood looks good! They are still varnishing other stuff, like table, bed and some other bits and pieces needed to be installed shortly.

Panos is planning to come very early tomorrow morning and wake us up with his workers.... I told him: "You can even come at 02:00 this night and wake us up if you want!"... Im happy aslong someone is here doing work to make us able to get out of here asap!

They are going to do the fiberglass work in the bathroom floor and around the new bulkhead. After the fiberglass fumes has disappeared (takes 12-24 hours) the carpenters can get going with installation of the remaining bits, like bed, vanity table, washing machine stand and enclosure, bookshelfs etc. Then things should progress quite rapidly which is something I look forward too.

I got the tv working here... and installed a DVB-T box (using tape to glue it to the tv as a temporary solution), so now we can see 4 digital Greek channels. I had my fun trying setting it up... as it defaulted to Greek menulanguage.... which Im not really very fluent in... at all.

But after some trial and error, I managed to get it to talk Italian, and then I could find the word Inglese... which ment I could get it to speak English to us.... which made life quite much easier regarding the remaining setup.

After dinner, Katharina made a circus show for us.. it was quite entertaining :) She sang, danced, walked as a line dancer etc. and after each act she came around with a microphone operating as a journalist, asking us what we thought about the show. Clever little girl :) Knows how to get grownups to give her compliments :)

Today we tried the aircondition in the boat... one of the units is currently detached, but the other is still working fine. We also decided to move the boat about 50cm closer to the pier, as the gap to jump was getting quite big... much to the dislike of Esmeralda.

Doing that we checked the anchor winch, lowering the anchor to the water level, and raising it again. We tried out its brake and clutch and both worked fine.

We rechecked (Ive already done that on my last visit here) the status of the 2 liferafts, and they are good until April 2007, when they need next check.

Finally we made a checklist of todo's or things which we found needed to be fixed or at least checked to confirm their operation. This includes the windex (instrument showing wind angle and speed) which seems to be out of order and the engine of the dinghy which we havnt tried for real yet.... dinghy needs new drainplug before we are going to lower it again for it not to become a submarine.

The overall list of important todos fortunately becomes shorter everyday and the people working on the boat are starting to give similar estimates about when we can depart... namely around July 28.
