29. July 06 - Showing our true nature
You are here: Home > Sailing the boat to Denmark > Diary
We decided today for showing who we are... we took down the Greek flag (and demoted it to a guest flag), and put up our brand new Danish split flag.
At the same time we decided to put on our crew uniform (a T-shirt) and asked one of the charter tourists down here to take a picture of us.
Now Dimitris is finally Danish territory! Monday we will go shop for new labels for its port of origin and its ship signature to replace the old labels on its aft.
We have also gotten the net setup on the rails, specially as a protection for Katharina if she should slip, not to go overboard. We have ofcourse also a lifewest for her, and a safety line harness, just in case.
We've made a shopping list of stuff to buy to get the boat cleaned up while sailing. We still believe in departure Wednesday morning and the importance of getting going soon is starting to show in the workpattern of some of Panos men. Remember, that I have been complaining about that some of them (not the carpenters) werent working on weekends, when there is a tight schedule etc.? Anyway, one of them were here today Saturday for 6-7 hours, of which he used about 3 for the railing net.
Our outside frigos are now working. We got to know that the one inside is actual an electrical one, and thus can operate without the use of the main engine.
It seems that the young people originally wanting to buy our house, have now chosen to sign a new contract for it, giving us the amount of money that we asked for. Now we just have to figure out how to sign remotely from Greece, but our realestate agency will figure that out sunday and let us know. The take over date has been postponed to Oct. 1. due to our severe delays getting out of Athens.
We are still waiting for the replacement 2nd VHF radio of which we were going to get a new one. The old one could transmit but not recieve.
We have also asked Panos to get in touch with the original seller of the boat (remember Panos was the one handling the interiour maintanance of it, so he knows the seller well), to figure out where the EPIRB unit has gone... we only have its mounting brackets, but not the actual unit. Our list of stuff for Panos to check out currently includes:
- EPIRB
- Aircon
- 2nd stationary VHF
- Windex
- Schema over cocks and waterpipes
- Winch in cockpit (getting more and more unlikely that it will ever be installed as he has been pulling this one all the time, despite I have been pushing him to get it done .... one of the things possible to do in weekends as it doesnt affect anything else.. but.. but)
In addition to the stuff related to the rebuild of the master cabin.
