20-21 Aug 06

We departed Propriano, which is a recommendable place to moore and a nice small city with most things available even on saturdays and evenings, at 13:00 local time.

Starting in the night, we got hard wind from NNW and waves in the 3-5 meters range pouring in over our ship. That means quite alot for comfort.. or rather lack theirof, as the vessel was at a quite steep angle and people inside was thrown around and up and down. I slept in our master cabin with Katharina while Esmeralda chose to sleep in one of the aft cabins as they are more stable in hard weather and have walls on 3 sides of the bed.

It was something of an experience to feel the bed disappear underneath you while sleeping, due to the vessel dropping rapidly 5-6 meters from a large wave.

Things got wet inside. We have some leaks to sort out when water is pouring over the ship. Even the computers got their share of water, but has fortunately survived.

The hard weather continued until afternoon on the 21. at which time the wind almost disappeared. There was still 1-2m waves for some time after and large ripples from the previous tough night.

We arrived at Mallorca and decided to anchor up just right outside a small harbour at 20:15 (39N47,38, 4E13,36). We had the occation to see another vessel also with danish flag there. As Nikolai unfortunately is planning to leave us here at Mallorca, due to his workschedule, we left it up to him if he wanted pizza or chinese soup (powder soup we had already on board) for dinner.

He chose pizza, so the dingy was arranged and 3 men and Katharina went off to find a pizzaplace. It was the most sorry city I have seen for quite some time. There were 4-5 restaurants and thats it. The city was completely dead. One of the restaurants however could arrange the pizzas as takeaway (we planned to eat on the boat, so Esmeralda stayed behind). The pizzas were so so.. and too small! But we got pizzas.

We departed from the anchorage with direction Palma. It was a 6 hour sail time mostly by engine as there was no wind. Upon arrival at approx. 19:40 we couldnt find any place to moore, so finally had to leave again towards Porto Nous, which Nikolai said had facilities and hopefully room. On arrival, we called the port authorities to get a place to moore, but as usual here in Spain, noone responds.

We found a vacant spot and sneaked in there.. planning to go out to eat dinner and checkout the town. However shortly before we were to go, a very angry spanish motorboat owner came along and asked us to get out.

Well.. not much to do about that.. we had to go again, but the helpfullness of these people can be very difficult to find. Asking where to go or who to contact, we were just getting very angry remarks back on english.

Then suddenly the harbour service arrived... telling us there was no place to be, and that we had to go out again. We finally have now anchored right outside the harbour and is about to eat a meal of homemade burgers instead of restaurant food.

I was actually also planning to go visit a doctor to have a checkup on my right big toe. Some days ago I hurt it quite alot while hurrying up in the cockpit due to the autopilot suddenly making a mistake and starting to turn us rapidly around in 360 degrees circles.

The nail was getting bluish, and the proportions of the toe wasnt normal. The toe didnt hurt in general after that, unless Katharina accidentally stepped on it. Today she stepped seriously on it, even turning around with her heal.. purely by accident... but boy did it hurt. Then I discovered blood all around the nail... and that the nail had seperated from the toe.. so not much to do than to play little doctor and remove the nail and slightly cut the loose skin, sterialize the wound and put a bandage on it. It generally doesnt hurt now, but boy does it look bad!

Well... as said the plan was to visit a doctor just to ensure that there wont be infections or stuff in it that could worsen the problem. But that has to wait until we can actually moore.

We are quite keen on getting an experenced deckhand on board for the remaining trip to DK and thus is willing to pay 250 UK pounds for someone in addition to the basic food and drinks. Please contact us asap if you are interested! The contact information is here. Dont email us, better SMS us!
