Practical information
You are here: Home > Sailing the boat to Denmark
Please remember this is a recreational/pleasure trip, not a commercial or charter one. Hence you must make sure to have all paperwork in order related to insurances etc. For the Danish citizens, remember that the yellow health insurance card (Gule sygesikrings bevis) only covers for pleasure trips of max 30 days.! Thus its wise to sign up for extra insurance.
Responsibility and rules on board:
- Generally all on board helps with all work. However for practical reasons, crew will be split up in 2 sailing teams who will work shifts of 6 hours.
- Team 1 will be headed by Gerson.
- Team 2 will be headed by Andrew.
- The members of the teams will be decided about when we meet onboard.
- In the galley, my wife (Esmeralda) will be responsible for the main part of the cooking. Volunteers for cooking are also wellcome :) We personally enjoy all sorts of styles of food! I plan to bring a fishing rod. We might aswell catch some good food while sailing :)
- The team who is off duty is expected to assist with cleaning up, maintanance, and other chores when needed, but ofcourse is also expected to get some rest and enjoy the trip :)
- I (Kim) will be the captain of the vessel. Im no dictator, not the most experienced of all and will appreciate all input I get from all of you. But at some point, some decisions related to the vessel, wellbeing of the crew or navigation has to be made, and I will be the one responsible for that after evaluating the input Ive got. I trust everybody will respect that.
- In harbour all teammembers must participate in getting the ship ready to go as soon as possible. This includes shopping, maintanance, cleaning up etc.
- The shopping expenses for basic food and water will be paid by the captain. Other types of drink, extra/other types of food than offered, and medicine is paid by the crew wanting/needing the item. Other vessel related expenses will be taken care of by the captain.
- Its the responsibility of each person on board, to have all personal paper work in order, and have all relevant insurances (medical, personal accident etc.) in order. Its also the responsibility of each person on board to ensure to behave with the highest level of safety in mind.
- Narcotics are 100% banned. If any narcotics are found, it will result in immediate reporting to the authorities and disembarkment from the vessel.
- Alcohol can be enjoyed in moderate form. You must at all times be mentally and physically able to handle an emergency situation. Thats not possible if you are intoxicated by alcohol. That means that a glas of wine or beer with the dinner is ok. One or two beers while sailing is also ok. When we sleep over in harbour, a small party can be arranged for which its ok to consume more alcohol, provided each person is ready for take off according to plan (typically next morning at 8am).
- Smoking is only allowed in the cockpit. Please no smoking below deck.
- The vessel and captain is not legally responsible for your personal health and any economic consequences related to that. Thus be sure to have the appropriate health insurances ready for the trip, also covering potential sick transport from the vessel to hospital and possibly your home country, medical assistance etc. We will however do all we practically can to ensure a safe and pleasurable trip for us all!
- Its the responsibility of each crewmember to obey danish and international laws.
Remember:
- all relevant certificates you have (sailing, diving or what else you can see as an asset for the trip)
- valid passport (with valid visas if applicable)
- 2 passport photos of yourself, one which will be used for the crew document, and the other as a spare.
- If you use medication, please make sure you have relevant documentation from your doctor for it. Some authorities can be quite rigid with these kind of things.
- Health insurance documents/certificates

Please take into account the number of days we will be out of port! (longest leg, we will be on the water for planned 10 days)

- Optionally own sailer clothes and life vests.
- Stuff for enjoyment... books, games, films, camera, videocamera, music CDs etc.
Practical things:
- Generally try to pack in bags rather than in suitcases if possible. Bags takes up much less space. Similar with glass bottles, if at all possible, bring cartons or plastic bottles as they are easier to store and wont easily break.
Leisure:
If you have some ideas to what one could do for fun while we are on the sea, then please dont hesitate to bring the ideas on :)
We will bring lots of DVD's, two laptop computers (one for navigation, one for leisure like playing DVDs etc), playing cards and similar stuff along with something for our kid to play with.
If you have some cool family type games, or a guitar (and can play it) or something similar, which can easily be carried, bring it :)
